artsVest in Sudbury
Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre with CN Rail
The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum partnered with CN Rail to obtain equipment to install five pieces of rolling stock - two electric locomotives, a steel caboose, a warehouse car and a snowplow car. The majority of the 400 feet of track is being laid by volunteers.
“The Artsvest program had a very positive affect on our whole operation. Our problem was that we had a number of large pieces of equipment to move to our site but had no tracks to put them on. When we approached CN with the Artsvest proposal, the local superintendent immediately agreed to aid us by donating all the material we required to build our track.
Because our property is on a street that everyone uses to go to downtown Capreol, we had a lot of voyeurs when we began to work. When we started to phone people to help who had track experience we were amazed with the response... everyone agreed to help... In fact on a couple of occasions, people just dropped in and started to work... Our volunteer pool is much larger than before because people can see the results of our efforts and success breeds success!”
