Globe & Mail Business for the Arts Awards – 2007 Winners
Arts Award for the First Dance
Blue Note Mining & Infinitheatre
The First Dance
The business: Blue Note Mining is a Canadian mining company headquartered in Montreal with operations in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Michael Judson is the President and CEO leading the expansion of the company.
The arts org: Founded in 1997, Infinitheatre is dedicated to reflecting and exploring life in 21st century Montréal. Seeking out innovative Québec plays and new theatrical styles, Infinitheatre develops, promotes, produces and brokers new work and new writers. A mid-sized theatre, Infinitheatre survives largely on the support of corporations foundations, and individuals.
The partnership: Michael Judson has been a supporter of Infinitheatre for four years. He joined the Board of Direcotrs in 2003, and has remained on as Treasurer ever since. He also introduced the theatre’s current president to the Infinitheatre and brought countless other supporters to the Artistic Director’s Circle.
Blue Note first supported Infinitheatre by purchasing $2000 worth of tickets to a fundraising event in the April of 2006. That summer, Blue Note became Infinitheatre’s Season Sponsor – the first time the theatre had ever had one. Blue Note repeated its Season Sponsorship the following year, increasing its amount of its support at the same time. Ticket purchases for staff of Blue Note Mining to attend fundraising productions further contributed to the financial support provided.
The outcome: In the words of those at Blue Note and Infinitheatre, Blue Note mines precious gems below ground, while Infinitheatre cultivates precious theatre above!

Congratulations to Blue Note Mining on winning the Globe & Mail Business for the Arts Award for the First Dance.
