The Edmund C. Bovey Award For Leadership Support of the Arts
The Edmund C. Bovey Award recognizes an individual from the business community for outstanding and long-time support of the arts. Named after the founding Chairman of Business for the Arts, its winners personify the mission at Business for the Arts - to increase the quality and quantity of relationships between business and Canada's cultural community. Business for the Arts is proud to add Henry N.R. Jackman to the distinguished list of winners. At the gala event, he will receive an award sculpture and cash prize of $20,000 to be given to the arts organization(s) of his choice.
The Honourable Henry Newton Rowell Jackman O.C., O.Ont., C.D., LL.D., has been selected as the 2008 winner of the prestigious Edmund C. Bovey Award, in honour of his outstanding contribution to the arts in Canada. Tafelmusik’s Jeanne Lamon led the nomination and gathered letters of support from arts and business leaders across the country. The letters are effusive in their support of Mr. Jackman’s Bovey nomination, noting his decades-long commitment to the arts, the tremendous leadership he has shown and the generous amount of time and money he has given to the arts. Mr. Jackman’s leadership in the arts has been profound. He has been quoted to say, “It is the arts that nurture the soul” and as such has taken enormous effort to ensure a healthy arts and cultural community in Canada.
